New way of industrial manufacturing: Anisoprint launched ProM IS 500 — industrial 3D printer for producing continuous fiber reinforced high temperature plastics.

Anisoprint, Luxembourgish-Russian manufacturer of hardware, materials and software for producing continuous fiber reinforced composite parts, launched new product: ProM IS 500. It’s the first industrial 3D printer specifically designed to print high temperature thermoplastics with continuous fiber reinforcement.

Anisoprint ProM IS 500 — the first continuous fiber 3D printer for printing high temperature thermoplastics reinforced with continuous fibers.

The machine design includes industrial components, CNC, quality control and safety systems, providing precise, repeatable and reliable manufacturing of mid-sized composite parts: printer’s build volume is 600mm x 420mm x 300mm. ProM will be equipped with a heated chamber for printing high temperature polymers such as PEEK or PEI, automated calibration, material and print quality controls, high-precision motion control, supporting industrial interfaces and safety requirements. The machine is designed to run 24/7 in a factory environment.

The new product is also based on Anisoprint’s patented Composite Fiber Co-extrusion (CFC) technology and represents another step towards the advent of anisoprinting era — a new approach to manufacturing. The company sequentially develops its ideas on how manufacturing of the 21st century should look like, suggesting products from desktop to the factory floor. The novelty ProM IS 500 allows taking more opportunities of the technology being the professional level of anisoprinting while its basics can be learnt from Composer — desktop continuous fiber 3D printer, also based on CFC technology.

Entry-level of anisoprinting — desktop solutions: Composer A3 (460 mm х 297 mm х 210 mm build area size) and A4 (297 mm х 210 mm х 140 mm)

Anisoprinting technology allows manufacturing of optimal composite parts of the complex shapes without tools or molds that are stronger and lighter than their metal or non-optimal counterparts. Plastic reinforced with Anisoprint materials has 860MPa tensile strength while the density is 1.4 g/cm³ that is 2 times lighter than aluminum and may have special fiber laying (in the form of lattices) that allows getting the maximum properties with minimum material usage for the design loads. It significantly reduces weight, production time and eventually the price of the part. With ProM IS 500 it will be possible to replace less efficient traditional technologies and materials for manufacturing mid-sized tools, spare parts and functional prototypes for aerospace, automotive, robotics and other industries.

Curvilinear trajectories of fiber laying are possible in anisoprinting approach to continuous fiber 3D printing: parts’ lattice inner structures keep composites strength reducing material usage, production time and eventually the total cost of the part.

ProM IS 500 will have up to 4 changeable print heads for printing composites and pure plastic. With them, it will be possible to reinforce different zones of the part with different composites (e.g. carbon/basalt) depending on the user’s goal.

High temperature plastics such as PEEK and PEI will be available as a matrix material for composites anisoprinted on ProM IS 500. That significantly expands applications of 3D printed parts bringing them in the areas of aggressive environments.
