METAL THINKING
#OneWordFromAnisoprintingWorld
This is the series of terms through which you can learn anisoprinting basics.
Today, let’s talk about metal thinking.
People are used to working with metals, and often they apply the same rules to composite materials although they have a different nature. This approach is so-called metal thinking.
One of the mistakes which you can make when working with continuous fibers reinforced composite parts is drilling, milling or cutting. They destroy continuous fibers so the strength of reinforced composite drops down dozens of times. The machining is actually killing the idea of reinforced composites application.
One more example of metal thinking is making laminates where plies are laid up on each other with different orientations, for example, 0, 90, 45 and -45 degrees (so-called black aluminum). We'll cover this topic in the next word.
