Co-extrusion

Patented technology for extruding matrix and continuous fiber through one extruder simultaneously is named composite fiber co-extrusion.

The technology is vested in the unique printing head, it was invented for feeding two types of material and extruding them from one nozzle. As we say above, one is matrix plastic and the other is prepreg — pre-impregnated fiber tow (with thermoset or thermoplastic).

The main purpose of coextrusion is to provide flexibility in matrix material choice and varying the plastic volume. If we control the plastic supply and make it more or less intensive, we control the fiber volume, and this is the most important condition for creating lattice structures. As we know from the previous posts, lattice structures are the key to unlocking the full potential of the composites.
